Ah, there's a story behind that! Apparently it's a pretty common thing for boys in Japan to grow their hair out, but get irritated by the bangs that hang in their face, so it's become a style to either clip back or use headbands.

In AnE, Rin was having this issue while trying to study, and kept pushing his bangs back with his hand (I actually have that as an icon too). Bon, one of the other characters came up to him and handed the clip to him as a thanks for saving him from a demon the day before. It was a pretty cute scene, and ever since the Rin will randomly pull out Bon's clip and clip his hair back.

It's also my headcanon that it's the only clip Rin owns and he's stupidly attached to it because it's the first "gift" he ever got from a friend. :3
