I'd like to hear Fai's thoughts about Kurogane's decision to help save his life the way he did (aka oh hey,: turning you into a vampire, we are now literally bound by blood, etc).

Fai wanted to die, he was ready for it. So the decision to be turned upset him. It meant he had grown too close to the others and that had never been his intention. He wanted to always keep an arms length away, to protect himself and them. He always saw himself as one that brought misfortune and to have anyone near to him meant misfortune could strike again. He also never felt he would actually survive traveling with the princess. He had gone on the journey fully prepared to die at any time.

So it wasn't the fact he was turned into a vampire that upset him, it was the fact that it meant these people had found their way into his heart and him into theirs. He tried to push them all away after it happened but found that no matter what terrible things he did, they stuck by him. It wasn't until Celes and the time Kurogane sacrificed his arm that he finally accepted that they were now a part of who he was and he couldn't bear to lose them.
