He doesn't even know what to think about Trunks. He's strong physically, but as far as Vegeta is concerned he's far too soft emotionally. He's basically come to accept that Trunks is his future son, since an extended stay in Vatheon has confirmed that timeline shenanigans are a THING. When he's not busy trying to unlock his own potential, this makes him feel a little defensive of Trunks.

Well she doesn't have a reason NOT to trust him or believe that he's her son. And he and Gohan know each other, so obviously that's total justification to trust everything he says and rely on him.

She doesn't know much about being a mom but knows what being in a strange place all alone is like and she wants to do her best to make him feel at home. Or at least as at home as one can feel in Vatheon.
