Cause, uh, both Gamzee's boyfriend one of them at least and his sorta adoptive father are really big into robot building. Gamzee understands shit all of it, but he'll probably be dragged along to meet Equius and Darkleer.

Okay. Wait. Lemme give a quick run down on troll romance. I'm sure he'll get a more hilarious and in depth one in character cause one of our trolls here is a real romantic expert.

First of all, trolls are as a species bisexual homosexuality and heterosexuality are like weird kinks for them, they don't even have names for it. Rather than have one kind of romance like humans, they have four quadrants, which they are all expected to fill in their life time.

There is the flushed quadrant, which is what closest resembles the human concept of love. So love, desire to reproduce, that kinda stuff.
There is the pale quadrant, which is kind of like platonic soul mates. No desire to reproduce, but this quadrant is real important because it involve one more stable partner calming down a more unstable partner. Trolls are a violent race so very important.
There is the black quadrant, which is basically foe-yay/hatelove. They are in hate with a partner, but still wanna reproduce with them. It is complicated.
And then there is the ashen quadrant, which uniquely involves three trolls and has one mediating troll kinda going in between two other trolls to make sure they don't kill each other. There is no reproducing in this quadrant either.

Uh. Yeah. Gamzee is a real champ and has his flushed and his pale quadrant filled, so he kinda has two boyfriends! And his flushed partner is a real robots geek, so yeah. Just expect to be taken home as a show and tell piece at some point.

It is a good comic, but man it can be a pain in the ass to read sometimes. It took me like two or three tries to get into it.

And I'm sure Karkat will give the explanation if conversations go in that direction. He loves yelling at people about romance.

fff this is actually perfect considering that the canon point I took this guy from, he switched back to human parts (for insane reasons), and he might need someone to...give them back to him again. Would that be doable?

Actually, in canon he makes robotic body parts for his friends who are missing limbs, so he's good at doing the organic/inorganic blend thing. He would be delighted to meet your guy and work with him!
